The HESI Admission Assessment is the other entrance exam nursing programs use, alongside the TEAS. It differs in one important way: your program chooses which subjects you sit. Most require math, reading comprehension, vocabulary and grammar, and many add anatomy and physiology. Check your school's own list before you plan your studying.

Two questions from the bank

Both formats, as they appear in practice. QuizNucleus accepts an answer typed in your own words.

Fill in the blank

Sympathetic stimulation of the kidney promotes release of the enzyme ______, which raises blood pressure.

Show answer

Answer: renin

Sympathetic fibers stimulate kidney cells to release renin. Renin starts the reaction sequence that produces angiotensin II, which constricts blood vessels and promotes aldosterone release, raising blood pressure. This is one way sympathetic activity contributes to high blood pressure.

Fill in the blank

Estrogen and progesterone are produced mainly by the ______, the female gonads.

Show answer

Answer: ovaries

The ovaries are the female gonads. They produce oocytes and function as endocrine organs by secreting estrogen, progesterone, inhibin, and other signals that regulate the reproductive cycle, pregnancy preparation, and secondary sex characteristics.

How to study for it

  • Get your program's section list first.Schools pick the subjects, so the right study plan starts with an email to admissions rather than a book.
  • Anatomy and physiology will benefit the most.It is the section most programs add beyond the core four, and the one where recall matters most.
  • Write the answer, do not recognize it.Choosing from four options hides gaps that typing the word exposes.
  • Work your misses.Come back to the blanks you got wrong rather than replaying what you already know.
